Hugh Myddleton Primary School
Pie was appointed to undertake a feasibility study for the redevelopment of a disused building in the Spa Green Estate in central London. Hugh Myddleton Primary School currently owns the building, and the ambition is to turn the site into an extended learning, arts and cultural centre for the whole community. Pie undertook extensive consultation work with all key stakeholders, including the London Borough of Islington, Hugh Myddleton Primary School, Spa Green Estate Residents’ Association, Barbican Centre and Sadler’s Wells. Engagement was focused on defining an appropriate combination of uses for the building and, the relationship of these and the centre to the culturally diverse community, and possible links to the nearby internationally recognised cultural centres, such as the Barbican and Sadler’s Wells.
Workshops were also run with local residents, business owners, and the children from Hugh Myddleton. Using the previous consultation work as a basis, participants were invited to decorate a model of the structure, exploring physical alterations and demonstrating their ideas about activities, uses and qualities of the space
